Let me hit you with a challenge right out of the gate: in a world full of artificial agents, are you ready to become an agent of your own destiny? Because that’s what the AI revolution is really asking of us.
It’s not just about machines taking over mundane tasks; it’s about how we, as individuals, step up and use these tools to amplify our own agency.
Just yesterday, I sat down with Sir Steven Wilkinson on my podcast, and he put it perfectly: AI is going to create an even sharper divide between those who take action and those who don’t.
He pointed out that maybe 10 or 20 percent of small business owners are making the lion’s share of the profits simply because they actually go out and do the things that others hesitate to do. They make those incremental changes, they optimize, they act—and AI is going to supercharge that gap.
We Will All Be Programmers
Of course AI will eliminate a lot of jobs. There aren’t lamp lighters and carriage drivers anymore (outside of Central Park).
Recently we’ve been hearing all the nervousness about programmers losing their jobs and it really got me thinking. Sure there will be a smaller group of “programmers” who know the less friendly ways (like C++ and Python) to talk with computers and get them to do what you want them to do.
However, AI is enabling the rest of us to catch up. In the near future, we’ll all be programmers and won’t need a priestly caste that knows what whispered incantations you need to perform to get results.
But here’s the issue. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you will and doesn’t mean it will create value.
AI isn’t here to replace your initiative. It’s here to reward it.
The winners in this new era will be those who embrace their own agency and use AI as a force multiplier. It’s not just about having the tools—it’s about being the kind of person who uses them to do what others won’t.
